Explore the possibilities of cross breed genomic testing
Pure breed herds have been enjoying the benefits of genomic evaluations since 2012 and NMR started offering genomic testing in March 2021. (See NMR Rolls Out Genomic Testing at UK Lab news article).
Now we are delighted to be in the vanguard of cross breed genomic testing. Our own GeneEze genomic testing service is an ideal option for those dairy farmers who prefer to milk cows with a mix of breeds.
Background
AHDB are planning a phased approach to the launch of the genomic evaluations for crossbred females. This approach aims to deliver a smooth transition to the process:
The dates for the first four runs of crossbreds are:
• Tuesday 16th December (run #2547)
• Tuesday 20th January (run #2603)
• Tuesday 17th February (run #2607)
• Tuesday 17th March (run #2611)
Ideally samples should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the run date for to be eligible for inclusion. The deadline will be the Monday, two weeks prior to the release date. This allows a 15-day lead in time while the system is in its early stages
Wesley Semple, Northern Ireland

Wesley Semple talks passionately about the benefits of genomic testing to his herd. From a marked improvement in his constituents to healthier cattle. Wesley can select each animal individually based on its genomic results. https://youtu.be/80Y0PzEaywI
Tom Bletcher, Wales

Tom Bletcher spoke to us about genomic testing his pure bred herd of Holsteins. Here he discuss the importance of maximising every cow place - especially when you're not pushing up cow numbers. He does this by close consideration of his genomic test results. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1D2ksWpVJM/
