The NMR milk sample can be used for many other tests in addition to routine quality testing - for example using a highly reliable test to detect Pregnancy Associated Glycoprotiens (PAGs) to accurately determine whether or not the cow is pregnant.

NMR's PD test service re-uses the existing milk sample (no extra sampling required), to ensure the animal is still in calf 60+ days post service – 12% of animals will have lost their calf by then, finding one non-pregnant animal per year covers the cost of PD testing.

The test result does depend on accurate animal identification, good milk sampling technique and fertility information that is up to date, so that with the automated options, the correct samples can be selected and tested in the laboratory.
