Record number qualify for NMR/RABDF Gold Cup 2010
A record number of herds have qualified for this year's NMR/RABDF Gold Cup having met the criteria of 100 milking animals, which is still less than the UK average recorded herd size, an annual somatic cell count average of 200,000/ml, or less than 400,000 for organic herds, and a minimum £PLI value specific to the breed. For Holsteins this is a PLI of £20.
This year nearly 1,000 British dairy herds have qualified which is at least 10% higher than previous years and they have all been sent entry forms.
"I would encourage them all to consider entering," says RABDF Chairman David Cotton. "This isn't a competition for only the elite or large scale herds. We've had finalists and winners in the past few years with a wide range of herd sizes, different breeds and management systems. But a common theme is that they work hard to make the best use of their resources on farm and are committed to the dairy industry..
Entries should be submitted by post or on line by Friday April 16, 2010. For more information, contact NMR customer services on 0844 725 5567 or mailto:customerservices@nmr.co.uk
