NMR celebrates trio of Royal Welsh Show winners

As the Royal Welsh Show drew to a close, NMR celebrated the success of three of its recorded cows - all home bred - taking major titles in the cattle classes.

Overall Best Dairy cow and Supreme Dairy Champion went to Castellhyfryd Spirte Rosina. Bred and exhibited by Simon and Sian Davies of the Brynhyfryd herd, Hebron, Whitland, Camarthenshire, and jointly owned with Kevin and Cathy Thomas, Rosina is in her second lactation. She is by Cederwall Spirte out of Castellhyfryd Sepstorm.

"Both her mother and grandmother have been reserve champions in the past but this is the first of the family to take a championship," says Simon. "She calved twin heifers in May and is currently giving 64 litres a day at 4.3% fat and 3.15% protein."

The RWAS Production Inspection Class was won by Feithy Margaret 89 EX92 (2) from ER and ME Jones and Sons herd from Cilfeithy Uchaf, Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire. This cow, by Calbreet Champion, has completed four lactations and given 13,196kg in her last 305-day lactation at 4.73% fat and 3.38% protein.

"This is a great win for Margaret who already has a few wins under her belt including the dam and daughter award in the 2010 NMR Carmarthenshire herd competition," says Wyn Jones.
