Disease Testing

Can You Afford to Ignore the Disease Status of Your Herd?

The HEALTHCHECK service is designed to be quick, simple and flexible to enable you to tackle these diseases. Listed below are the services NML can supply to help you to establish the disease status of your herd and put you on track towards disease control. This range of tests is available to vets, producers, public sector and research organizations alike.

Bulk Milk Testing

This service enables you to see trends in disease status within your herd and to detect antibodies against common diseases in the dairy herd.  These currently include BVD, Lepto, IBR, Liver Fluke and Neospora.

NML conducts payment testing for approximately 95% of GB dairy producers, therefore making it quick and easy to test your bulk milk sample for disease. For more information, please click here.

Individual Testing

Individual disease cow testing provides a simple, efficient and cost effective alternative to blood samples.  Disease tests available using this service can include anything from ad hoc or regular testing on individual cow to a whole herd. Tests can be carried out for BVD, Lepto, IBR and Johne's. NML also offer a quarterly whole herd Johne's testing service called HerdWise.  For more information, please click here.

Blood Testing

NML offer antibody blood testing for BVD, Lepto, Johne's, Neospora and IBR. We also offer antigen test for BVD. For more information, please click here.

Tag & Test

Available from the NMR Group, Tag & Test will allow producers to accurately identify BVD virus within the tissue sample which in turn will assist with the PI identification of cattle. For more information, please click here.

Submit Samples

To submit individual cow samples for disease testing using milk recording samples please ask your milk recorder for a blue sample submission form.

To request a bulk milk test please call customer services with your milk buyer and milk buyer ID. They will be able to verify if a fridge sample is available for testing and if not, will post a kit to you so you can take your own sample. If you would like your vet to be able to request testing on your behalf, please complete the third party authorisation form and return it to NMR.

To submit milk samples from non-recording herds or to submit blood samples please call Customer services on 0844 7255567.
