AWARENESS WINNER AT ROYAL WELSH

Dave Watkins from Abergavenny got a nice surprise in the aftermath of the Royal Welsh Show - he won a luxury hamper worth £100 in NMR's Awareness Campaign. He visited the stand and successfully answered six questions on the tools available to control Johne's disease, sourcing the answers from his own knowledge and from NMR's web site. Dave milks 140 cows on an organic system at Grosmont, Abergavenny.

"We are running the competition at the major shows and on the NMR web site to raise awareness of the tools available to identify and control Johne's disease in dairy herds," says NMR's national field manager Jonathan Davies. This is a topical subject, with Johne's believed to be affecting 60 to 70% of our herds - and the ‘silent' nature of the disease means that many producers are unaware of it.

"But following campaigns by vets, milk buyers and NMR, producers are taking a more proactive approach to identifying any high risk cows in their herd and implementing regular screening so they have the knowledge to control the disease long term. This campaign is designed to help ‘spread the word'."

NMR is giving away luxury hampers worth £100 to winners drawn at random from the correct entries received at shows and events in the coming months. All correct entries will also go into grand draws with two lucky producers winning a weekend European city break for two including travel and accommodation. Enter on the NMR stand at the shows or on the web site www.nmr.co.uk.
