NMR launches breakthrough heat detection technology

NMR is unveiling its new electronic heat detection collar and monitoring system this month.  Called Silent Herdsman, the collar and its supporting software system has been funded by a £4.75m Scottish Enterprise R&D programme and developed by the University of Strathclyde and Embedded Technology Solutions.  It marks the next generation of electronic heat detection monitors and uses advanced motion technology.  Silent Herdsman is available to UK producers through an exclusive agreement with NMR. Record number qualify for NMR/RABDF Gold Cup 2010

A record number of herds have qualified for this year's NMR/RABDF Gold Cup having met the criteria of 100 milking animals, which is still less than the UK average recorded herd size, an annual somatic cell count average of 200,000/ml, or less than 400,000 for organic herds, and a minimum £PLI value specific to the breed. Better bug detection moves mastitis management up a gear

A new technique for identifying mastitis-causing bacteria will improve mastitis management on farms and bring benefits to producers, vets and milk buyers.  Launched this month (February) by National Milk Laboratories - part of the NMR group - the  technique detects bacterial DNA and can identify nearly twice as many pathogens and in hours rather than days compared to NML' traditional culture techniques.
